The Polk County Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) developed a multimodal long range transportation plan for 2035. This 2035 Mobility Vision Plan identifies and addresses future transportation needs and presents a vision for how transportation investments and policies will serve and promote the long term growth strategy for the County. Mobility strategies have been developed for drivers, transit users, pedestrians and bicyclists, ensuring that the overall transportation system will operate safely and effectively into the future.

The project and policy recommendations of the 2035 Mobility Vision Plan are based in part on the 2060 Transportation Vision Plan, which was completed in June 2009. This Plan establishes a framework for organizing and promoting development within existing centers and along major transportation corridors. The Plan focuses on transit investments that are appropriate to serve the future mobility needs within the County and that can be effectively implemented within existing road and rail rights-of-way.

The Polk County TPO is required by federal and state law to update the Long Range Transportation Plan every five years. Over the course of the 2035 Mobility Vision Plan development, the TPO conducted outreach and coordination activities with community stakeholders and government and agency planning partners. This site will include meeting announcements, work products and general information about the purpose and content of the plan. The 2035 Mobiltiy Vision Plan's Vision Statement:

The 2035 MVP will provide a safe, efficient and sustainable multi-modal transportation system that meets the diverse mobility needs of Polk County residents, workers and visitors.

The 2035 Mobility Vision Plan includes eight (8) Goals:

1. A Multimodal Transportation System
• Develop and maintain a balanced multi-modal transportation system that reduces dependency on the automobile, provides a range of transportation choices, supports the efficient movement of people and goods, and provides a seamless network connecting Polk County.
2. A Sustainable Transportation System
• Develop a transportation system that is consistent with future land use plans, is environmentally sustainable, and enhances the quality of life in Polk County.
3. A Regional Transportation System
• Develop a regional multi-modal transportation system that efficiently moves people and goods, provides for the seamless connections, and is coordinated across jurisdictional boundaries.
4. Freight and Goods Movement
• The transportation system should be developed and maintained to support an efficient movement of freight and goods, while providing improved connectivity to major economic activity centers.
5. Efficient and Interconnected Transportation System
• Maintain an efficient transportation system by managing congestion and improving traffic flow.
6. A Safe and Secure Transportation System
• Develop a transportation system that provides for the safety and security of both motorized and non-motorized travel.
7. Economic Developmet and Fiscal Considerations
• Foster the economic vitality and global competitiveness of Polk County and Central Florida by directing resources to the development of the transportation network.
8. Mobility Vision Plan Content, Development and Priorities
• The 2035 Polk Mobility Vision Plan will provide a comprehensive framework for addressing future transportation needs, and develop projects and priorities for implementation.

WE INVITE YOU TO READ AND COMMENT ON OUR 2035 MOBILITY VISION PLAN JUNE 2012 UPDATE

The 45-day public comment period starts today and is open until June 7, 2012. The update will be presented to the Polk TPO Committees in late May and will be presented to the Polk TPO Board for action on June 7, 2012. Copies of the draft document can be downloaded on our website:

ADOPTION OF THE 2035 MOBILITY VISION PLAN

The TPO Board adopted the 2035 Mobility Vision Plan at their December 7, 2010 meeting with two changes:

1. Project number 266 (Haines City-Davenport Eastern Road) - terminate the road at Baker Dairy Road instead of Champagne Road.
2. Project number 267 (Warner Road Extension) - Remove this project.
